Post Card From Lake Tahoe

Happy New Year, my dear friends!

If you have followed me on my Instagram, you probably  know that our family took a mini vacation to Lake Tahoe for New Year’s Eve.  We originally planned a longer road trip to the southeastern U.S., but some of Bob’s work issues forced a last minute change.  But it worked out well; spending a couple days in Lake Tahoe was so much fun!  We watched the fireworks over Lake Tahoe from the 18th floor of a casino-hotel to ring in the New Year, and everyone cheered and clapped for 2016!

Red Bear and I had never seen so much snow in our lives — it was everywhere, and deep!  “I want to put my face inside the snow;” that’s what Red Bear said before we arrived.  And he did it, too, immediately when he got out of the car!  While we checking into the hotel, he stopped and rammed his face into a pile of snow outside the door — then he cried after that, because he was playing in the snow with bare hands, and he was surprised by how COLD snow can be — it “hurt” after all!  I guess that’s a good lesson for him to know that “putting my face inside the snow” might be a little insane thing to do — LOL!  But that really didn’t stop or slow down his snow playing.  He made his new game, laying down on top of the snow, and “swimming” on top of it; he called himself a “Snow Angel”.

These Manitobah boots are really “toes savers” — they are warm, cute, and really help to walk safely on the snow and ice, which we discovered can be really slippery.  (FYI, Manitobah is an aboriginal owned company that supports other aboriginal owned businesses throughout Canada and celebrates the artistry of their ancestors combined with modern Vibram soles for high performance in the elements of everyday life.)

One of the most beautiful sunsets I have seen; it was really, REALLY cold when I was taking these pictures.  My fingers were freezing, my breath was taken, but I wouldn’t let the view get away.

We were first in line to go up to the Heavenly Mountain that day, and planning to get ski lessons there, but it was so sad that we couldn’t make it because Red Bear was having a reaction to the high altitude. But we still love the snow and winter sports!  And later he felt well enough to sled and have a big snowball war with Mom and Dad.  We are thinking to go to Big Bear Lake next time, it’s just a little more than more hour from us, and a lower altitude, too!  We think Red Bear will love to learn to ski.

We made a snowman, too!  Yep!

Right before I jumped at this picture, we covered all our cameras and phones, and had a snow fight!  We had so much fun!  Although, Red Bear didn’t like it when Dad hit him with the snowball on his face.

But Red Bear didn’t quit, he counter-attacked, and succeeded in hitting Dad in the face, and even got one snowball down the back of his jacket!  So, in the end, victory was Red Bear’s!
