I have had my Dyson Airwrap (the 1st generation) for many years, and same as many other tools I have, I barely used it. That is mostly because I have very long and thick hair, and it really takes a long while to get the right style done. And lately, I have been into the “no heat” hair theory, and that gives me all the necessary excuses for not using hot tools on my hair at all — yes, not even a hair dryer!
But, thanks to all the “suggested contents” Instagram sends me, I recently have seen a lot of great long hair styles with the Dyson Airwrap, with the longer barrel, and that really inspired me to spend sometime to style my long hair differently.
I bought these attachments a couple days ago, and here is my review:
1.The Airwrap™ Coanda Smoothing Dryer Attachment said it will smooth the hair or any “flyaway.” I have big and frizzy hair in some weather, and so I really wished it would work. The result was OK after using it, but today is not a humid day, so I can’t really tell any big difference. I might still need to use some frizz control serum, but for the $39 price point, I am going to keep the attachment and keep trying it a couple times more.
2.I bought the brush attachment because the original brush I had was broken (the body and the head separated very easily, and I still don’t know why). This new attachment brush head works as well as the last one, it might even be more aggressive then the original one. I feel if I am not so careful, my hair would get stuck between brush bristles– they are kind of hard and rough compared to the original one; I never had such a feeling or issue with the original brush head.
3.The Long Barrel is must-have for longer hair for sure. I have them in 1.6″ & 0.8″ size, since the 1.2″ was sold out. I tried both, and both felt they did not “grab” my hair nicely like the original ones. I had to use my hand to wrap my hair on the barrel all the time, while the original barrel would “suck in” hair like magic. But these new attachment long barrels can switch the curl direction in just one twist, so it’s more convenient than the original one when you have to switch the barrel to use on different side of your hair.
And, I read on the Dyson website that, to make your curls last longer, after curling it with hot air, you need to hold the “cool” air button for 5 to 10 seconds, which I did. I took this picture 10 minutes after I curled my hair, using the 1.6″ barrel, and it is already loosening up and losing its curl. One hour later, I lost almost all the curls, even though I applied a “light hold” hair spray. This is very frustrating to me; I really like the result right after curling with the Dyson Airwrap, but the curl doesn’t hold or last long enough! It has me wondering what I did wrong or if my hair is too thick or too much. I haven’t given up yet; I will try the 0.8″ barrel tomorrow and see how it goes. I will be updating the result on my Instagram story, so keep your eyes on it.
Update: So I tried the 0.8″ barrel today and the curl seems last longer & I really like the result!
