During the first couple years of my married life, my husband often said my wardrobe contained mostly black, grey, and white. But later, when I started my blog I looked around and got get inspired by all the fashionista and social media fashion world, and even my husband noticed my personal style suddenly became more colorful — and more fun.
I often have friends tell me that they would like to include more colors into their own personal styles, too, but they are not sure how to start and how to do it. So here are my 4 style tips:
1.Personal style is really personal; there is no rule saying you should wear more colors and how. But if you are really interested trying to wear more colors, or want to give your style a change, then go from here. Believe me, when I decided to open my style up to colors, it brought a lot of joy for me, and I bet it will do the same for you.
2. Identity what are your favorite colors beside black, white, neutral, and what colors make you happy, or even help you to look glowing. We can try to add a scarf, a bag, or a top starting with these colors that already appeal to you.
3. Wearing more than 2 colors in one outfit actually could be pretty challenging even for me, so let’s start with adding one bright color with another basic/neutral color tone. When you get more comfortable, we can start to put 2 colors into one outfit. My personal favorite color combinations are yellow with blue (see the post), pink and red (see the post), mustard with blue (see the post). When we get comfortable seeing more colors in our personal style and feeling good about it, then we can start to play around and mix unexpected 2+ color combos.
4. Be aware of how different colors can affect you. I am not going to talk about “Feng Shui” here, but if you have some particular color that you think would bring you bad luck, and you mentally don’t like it, then don’t touch it, it’s not for you. Again, there is no rule saying you shouldn’t wear this color or that, despite how trendy the color is. For me, I always avoid any color in neon shades, I think they do not match my skin tone, and mostly, neon color always make me nervous for some reason.
