How to Style A Floral Dress

Sometimes a combination of pink and a floral pattern in a dress can give a “too girly” vibe. As to that, I say, “Yes” . . . and, “No.” The final look is what matters, and it really depends on the particular garment and how you style it.

Today I am styling a pink floral dress by J.Crew that I just got — I really love the floral print and those ruffles on the bottom. The color is actually my favorite pink shade — dusty pink. The dress is also very easy to put on and take off; the zipper is in the back, and I had no problem zipping up and down. (For your reference, I am 5’3, 112 lbs, and wearing this dress in size 2; I could have gone for size 0, but it might be a bit tight after a big meal.)

When styling any floral dress:

1. Try a basket bag. A basket bag always gives an outfit an “effortless” touch, and calls out in a “neutral” voice. See my other floral dress looks with basket bags here, here and here.

2. A pair of oversized earrings help to give any floral dress a romantic and “resort life” touch. I like these oversized hooped shell earrings I am wearing today, very well-made and with a reasonable price. If you are not into oversized earrings, try these studded earrings.

3. Avoid stilettos. In my opinion, most high heeled pumps have that “super sleek,” and “super sharp” look, while floral dress often give people that softer “neighbor girl” feeling; they just don’t look right together. I like to pair a floral dress with sandals, sneakers, or even a pair of flats, if you are tall or don’t bother trying to look taller. Today I am wearing shoes are from Vince Camuto & I think this pair of kitten-heel sandals would look so good with this dress, too
