LA Dining: Le Petit Paris

My family (3 of us, including our 8 year old son) had Sunday brunch at  Le Petit Paris (Address: 418 S Spring, Los Angeles)  last weekend– it was an exceptionally good experience! We had never been there before, but we discovered it is a VERY fine French restaurant in downtown Los Angeles. It’s in the century-old El Dorado Building, which has been restored as part of the ongoing revival of downtown L.A.

The Sunday brunch runs from 11 a.m. until 3, but we arrived early (a function of traffic and when our church let out), and browsed a little in the neighborhood (the Sunday Farmer’s Market starts about a block away), the staff let us in a few minutes before they opened, and we used the time to check out the whole restaurant. It is a long room, larger than I expected seeing it from the outside, with a grand staircase at the far end that goes up to a mezzanine level where there is more seating. It looks like no shortcuts were taken when the grand old building was restored to vintage style with modern functionality, and the furnishings go with the building perfectly. Nothing cut-rate here!

Now for the important part — the Sunday brunch. It is buffet style, all you can eat, with several stations. I truly don’t remember everything we tried — since it was out first time there, we sampled many different dishes, breads, desserts, salads, etc., etc., Everything was exceptional.  Red Bear discovered the chocolate fountain at the dessert area, and proceeded to dip strawberries, bananas, and more in it — so that might have been his favorite. We all agreed the quiche was perfect.

Before we started our brunch, the charming maitre d’ Stephane Closquin told me the “winning strategy” to enjoying everything in the buffet was to go slowly, so as not to fill up too much, too fast. He was right, but it was all too delicious to follow his advice.

I have to mention the staff, which is very Continental (so many interesting European accents there), and SO attentive and pleasant. Our primary server was Julia, and she was not only fast, efficient, and pleasant, but she exuded joy that almost glowed around her.

Le Petit Paris has only been open since mid-2015, but it really has its act together, and delivers excellent food in a beautiful setting with first-rate service.

I also learned that they have live music on Wednesday nights — jazz, I think. At Sunday brunch, they had suitable background music — I particularly enjoyed some Spanish guitar. hmmm…..Might be a good place for Valentine’s Day…..

Thank you to Le Petit Paris for working with me on this story.

P.S. (See what I wore inside this post here)
