Last Thursday, invited by American Grown Flowers, I went to the Carlsbad Flower Fields for the “Field to Vase Dinner.”
This is a dinner like no other, where we were surrounded by a sea of vibrant Ranunculus overlooking the beauty of the Pacific Ocean. We enjoyed live music, great company, and the beauty of American Grown flowers!

Our dinner experience began at 5:00pm with a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception, followed by a short tour of the farm given by Mellano & Company farmer, Mike Mellano. Carly Cylinder, author of The Flower Chef, was the evening’s featured designer, and Carly delighted us with a floral design presentation. When dinner was served (there was also vegetarian food option available — how nice!), we enjoyed a beautiful tablescape designed by Carly herself.

Before I came to the dinner, I checked with them about: What should I wear?
I was told these dinners are a lot like a garden party. “Farm chic.” is the theme, so I should just wear something comfortable and wear comfortable shoes. Weather that night was perfect, about 65-degrees at dinner time. I chose one of my favorite Rosie Accoulin dress and paired it with a pair of lace up Sezane espadrilles, and added a bamboo tote Zara bag for a fun and springy feeling. (I also brought this J.Crew jacket with me, which didn’t show in the post, and I absolutely love it!)

I have been to the Carlsbad Flower Fields before (see my last visit here), but this Field to Vase Dinner was absolutely fantastic! The American Grown “Field to Vase Dinner Tour” is a series of intimate events like this one. If you want to attend one of these amazing and fun dinners, just check their website — I hope you’ll love it as much as I did! Each artisan-style dinner is held at a breathtaking venue. I like that they encourage guests to experience the age-old art and science of flower farming.
