Weekend Inspiration: Emilia Wickstead[/column]

[column]

A couple of days ago, I had a conversation with a friend when we went out for a night event.  We watched a lot of ladies wearing very tight and very mini black dresses for the event as we sipped our drinks, and we talked to each other about those ladies (naturally!).  We said that we are not into it; why does everybody need to look the same and try to dress to “be attractive to the men”?

She said, “Not all the men like that, though…”

I responded, “Maybe we’re the different ones.  This is Los Angeles, and people here like to dress to show off their figures, and there’s nothing wrong with that.  Come to think of it, it’s pretty much the “sexy night out code” around the whole world.

She said she is going to write a blog post about it, telling people the correct code to wear at night.  I said I wouldn’t do that — not that I don’t agree with her, but it’s a style, and people should wear what they like and feel good about it, as long as there is no law to tell us what we must wear!  I always try not to be critical about what other people wearing, and I hope they aren’t critical of how I dress! Lesson I learned: “Don’t judge others, or you will be judged!”

So I just prefer to remember what style really suits me and stick with that for me.Of course, I always have my eyes open for new designers and trends and styles to inspire me and expand my own “fashion happiness zone!”

Today’s post, I am featuring one of the designers I especially love — Emilia Wickstead.   Since launching her label in 2008, this London-based design talent has become renowned for her precisely cut coats, sharply pleated dresses, and sculpted, feminine silhouettes in petal-soft colors. A beautiful style to cheer up the weekend!

  1. Hi Hallie That is so funny( you said exactly what I think) but even though I don’t think anybody needs to be judged but I think we, women, should learn to dress more for ourselves and I think we would look a lot more sexier(even that is what we are trying to achieve at the end of it). I always have same conversation with my friends too and I think we should be more careful specially as we age, those body con dresses tight and short may do the exact opposite, haha:) I love her dresses btw.

  2. I love Emilia Wickstead! I also agree with what you are saying, I think women should feel more empowered to dress how they like and less to just fit into the frame of what they think men will think is hot. If this means a body con black dress, so be it, but I find that dressing for myself is much more fun and interesting. Not to say that I don’t sometimes wear a bodycon black dress…I do, but it has ceased to be my go-to “night out” look.
