Thanks to my hubby telling me about the “Best of the best” event in a thrift store, I am so glad we did check it out, I got so many beautiful stuff and I am
looking forward to the next “best of the best ” event. I will show you some pictures in the next few days.
What do you think about shopping in a thrift store? Be honest with you, I wasn’t really into that before, mostly, I didn’t like the smell inside the store (so musty, no?), secondly, I think old stuff is old! Well, after several times experience, I totally change my mind! Yes, you can’t really try things on in the thrift store, you have to have good eyes to pick up the good stuff. You have to think of the cleaning issues, etc…But mostly, I think most of the stuff I have bought in the thrift store is really a steal. And, in some of the thrift stores, like the one I was in today, all the money goes to a good charitable cause.
The sweater I wore today was and the bag was , and they are all found in thrift shops a few months ago. You can see the sweater here wore as another outfit, and the bag here match with another outfit. 🙂

But since February, something came over me and I gave the thrift trip a chance and have made so many good deals and unexpected encounters with lovely frocks.

And thrift stores? Hmm.. I have never been in one to be honest, but that's only because there's not one in the place I live and I actually doubt it that there are a lot thrift stores in the whole Greece… I'm not sure people here would like to buy 'old' things, which I really hate because they try to prove something they are not. Oh well, don't get me started on Greeks 😛 When I move to New York (yes, allright, *very* wishful thinking lol!) I will have the chance to go thrift shopping hehee! 😀 😀

There is another reason I like thrift store is: I like the feeling to search something that might be from somebody’s mom and grandmom, my mom and my grandmom passed away many years ago, I didn’t really have a chance to look at their clothset, I missed the chance…plus, I like to imagine the story behind every pieces I toughed in the thrift store, I know it sounds a little bit strange, but it’s a true feeling to me.
I noticed you have been mentioned New York few times recently, are you planing moving to NY?

This is my first time commenting after discovering you and your website through Chictopia. I love, love, love your style and sense of fashion!!! Your photos have been wonderful sources of inspiration for rethinking how to use items I already have and what I want to buy when shopping.
As for thrift stores, I love them for several reasons… 1. As you indicated, some benefit local charities. Looking good AND helping others? Priceless! 2. And speaking of price, I’ve bought items that appear to be new (i.e. still have the original tags attached) for a fraction of the original price. 3. You can find unusual items that you are unlikely to see anyone else wearing. 4. Shopping at thrift stores is sort of like a treasure hunt. When I find something in good condition that I like and is in my size, I feel like it was meant for me to get it.

Oh, my dear Melinda, I have to thumb up for your comment about the thrift store!!!! and I totally agree with all your opinions! Are you a lawyer or writer or something? You tell your opinions so clearly, and very organized! I really admire you for that!!!

美国的二手店应该还是挺正规的，而且收入都会拿来做慈善，我看你淘的东西品质也都挺好的，但要在国内的二手店就要多考虑考虑了，最近看时尚杂志发现，在二手店买古董衣已经成为潮人们的新时尚了。
我听说在淘宝上已经开始兴淘VINTAGE衣了? 🙂 看看有注意吗?

And about NY, it’s nothing! Moving over there is my dream, and as the time that I will be studying comes closer (which means more freedom and staying away from my parents -not that they’re bad, just too overprotective), I can’t think of anything else! I know, it’s kinda stupid, but that is really my dream! Moving in NY and working as a translator there 🙂 This is why I’ve been mentioning this over and over again 😀
I understand what’s your meaning of the parent’s overprotective. same thing here, I always feel regret that I never living in the camp when I was in college, It would be more interesting with classmates or friends hang around instead of stay with parents at home most of the evening. But few years later, after my mom passed away and I feel so regret for not being with her more time. And now, being a mom, I am feeling sad already to just imagine one day Red Bear will leave me and leave the home and stay in another place..
Well…I guess that’s life…
