Clothes to Wear from Monday-Sunday

After I graduated from school in China (it seems like a time and place far, far away, now!), I had many jobs: part-time, full-time, in the office, in the field, even got paid to travel around the world. So yes, I do have some experience for all kinds of workwear & how to choose them. Unless you are required to wear a uniform, you can still put together work outfits that look good, feel good, and show your own good style.

When choosing workwear, there are a couple “keywords” come to mind:

1.Functional. An outfit you can wear from work day to the weekend is better. It saves money and room in your closet.

2.Machine-washable. Depending on the job and occasion, most of my work clothes were machine-washable. I didn’t have people to wash for me, nor did I have extra time and money to run to a dry cleaner often. Modern fabrics do very well with machine washing and still look and feel good (especially part natural, part synthetic blends). But let’s talk about this topic more another time.

3. Always think timeless. As you might know, I am fan of bold colors and “dramatic” dresses, but when choosing workwear, I always go for classic and timeless looks. Avoid extreme “faddish” styles and focus instead on styles that you can wear and look nice for at least a few years.

In today’s post, I am styling a weekend look, by wearing a pair of “workwear” pants by Ann Taylor, (FYI, I am 5’3″, 112-lbs., and here wearing petite 2), top is from Zara, bag is J.Crew,(See me wearing the same bag with a floral dress here).  shoes are Manolo Blahnik, and a pair of retro eyeglasses from Amazon. For your work day, you can just add a button-down shirt or blazer to this pair of pants, as you probably already know.

If you are interested, I listed a bunch of my favorite pants/shirts you can wear from work day to weekend below:

1. J.Crew Ingrid Pants & the Matched blazer.

2.Ann Taylor Sweater Tee (The green color is so beautiful) & Belted Pleated Midi Skirt.

3. Banana Republic Oversized Poplin Shirt & Wide Leg Pants.

4. M.M LaFleure Cardigan Jacket & Washable Silk Skirt(If you haven’t heard about this brand, I had a blog post about them here

5. Theory Trench Coat & Asymmetrical Dress
